Dining and Hospitality Manager

Good Earth Village is an ecumenical ministry, serving congregations and individuals throughout Southeastern Minnesota. Employees shall manifest a spirit of Christian hospitality and service in dealing graciously with guests and all other people, and a strong sense of commitment to teamwork with other employees.

Hospitality in this role means creating a welcoming and comfortable environment by ensuring meals are prepared with care, facilities are kept clean and inviting, and both guests and staff feel valued and respected.

Qualifications: The Dining and Hospitality Manager shall be a person committed to Jesus Christ and the church and dedicated to working in a church related organization.

  • Ability to plan, prepare, and cook meals for groups of varying sizes while maintaining quality and timeliness.

  • Proven experience in food service management, hospitality, or related field.

  • Proactive and resourceful, with a proven ability to take initiative and stay self-motivated to meet deadlines and exceed expectations.

  • Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation standards, and allergen management.  Experience planning menus and preparing meals for diverse dietary needs and restrictions.

  • Must have the ability to solve problems, remain flexible, and adapt to any situation, often on short notice.

  • ServSafe Food Manager Certification as required by state law.

  • Ability to plan, order, and manage food inventory within budget.

  • Experience supervising, training, and scheduling food service or hospitality staff.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities with guests, staff, and vendors. Commitment to creating a welcoming, hospitable environment for all guests.

  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and peak event times as needed.

  • Effective computer skills are needed. 

  • Knowledge and commitment to risk management policies and procedures required. 

Duties and Responsibilities

1. General:

  • Provide quality food service for summer camping programs, year round retreat groups, and onsite events.

  • Organize and develop appropriate menus, order food, supplies, and other items as assigned by the Director of Retreat Services and ensure all supplies and items ordered are received and properly stored.

  • Oversee and manage the Housekeeping department and staff.

  • Ensure all invoices/billing of items ordered are turned in to the Director of Business Operations timely.

  • Ensure the kitchen is clean and meets state and ACA (American Camping Association) standards at all times. Standards include responsibility for tasks related to food production, food delivery, and sanitation in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations.

  • Ensure all housekeeping tasks are completed prior to group arrivals.

  • Oversee and plan annual deep cleaning operations, including scheduling and staff coordination.

  • Maintain a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere for all guests.

2. Other:

  • Retreats happen all year. The Dining and Hospitality Manager is responsible for coordinating with the Program Director, Director of Retreat Services, and Director of Business Operations well in advance of any requirements.

  • Attend board meetings as requested.

  • Represent the organization both on-site with guests and in the community.

  • Attend outdoor ministry conferences, gatherings, and other continuing educational opportunities as directed by the Director of Retreat Services.

  • In consultation with the Program Director and the Director of Retreat Services, as requested, assist in evaluating the programs offered by Good Earth Village.

  • Have regular attendance and be punctual.

  • While this is a list of responsibilities, this position requires the ability and heart to do "whatever is needed" for the benefit of the ministry of Good Earth Village. i.e. other duties as assigned.

Physical Duties of Food Service and Hospitality Manager

  • Must be able to make a variety of movements intermittently throughout the day.

  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist, stoop, lift, carry, reach and grasp.

  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift up to 50 pounds and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 10 feet.

  • Food Service and Housekeeping employees may be subject to standing for long periods of time, in a moist and warm environment. Food Service and Housekeeping Staff are exposed to equipment that may cause injury if operations are not followed and are exposed to chemicals that may be harmful if instructions for use are not followed properly.

Responsible to: The Director of Retreat Services of Good Earth Village. The Director of Retreat Services has final authority of decisions made within the Food Service program and all staff are finally accountable to the Executive Director for all facets of the mission and operation of Good Earth Village. Within this accountability, the Dining and Hospitality Manager shall receive the delegated authority and responsibility to carry out the tasks described above.

The Dining and Hospitality Manager’s performance to be evaluated annually. Criminal background checks to be performed annually.

Compensation Package: Salaried non-exempt position; vacation, paid holidays, and sick leave; health, dental, retirement package

This is a year-round position based out of Spring Valley, Minnesota.

Expectations are 40 hours per week year round.
