COMING UP…

When: Tuesday, February 25
Speaker: George Thompson
Topic: An Hour in My Shoes

George grew up in Saint Louis and moved to Rochester in 1968, during tumultuous years of the Civil Rights Movement, to work at IBM. At the time, George was one of very few Black men in the region. Over 55 years later, George has many stories from decades of his life and leadership in southeastern Minnesota, where he has always sought to serve and to create community.

George believes that when we understand each other and our differences, we have the best foundation for a strong community. His presentation, "An Hour in My Shoes," will explore his experiences as a Black husband, father, friend, business man, and leader in southeastern Minnesota. He will offer stories and perspectives as a truly remarkable family man, neighbor, and leader.

Separate goodwill offerings will be collected upon entry for lunch and for our speaker.

When: Tuesday, September 10
Speaker: Juli Seyedell Johnson
Topic: There’s a Story in Every Quilt

If we’re lucky, quilts wrap us in warmth throughout our lives.  They also tell our stories and memorialize milestones.  Textile Artist, Juli Seydell Johnson, will share her quilting story which started as a self-challenge to make a quilt for the Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp Quilt Auction in the early 1990’s.  She learned to make that first quilt with help from her Grandmother.  Since then her pieces have evolved from traditional quilts to storytelling quilts that reflect important themes from Juli’s life and career.  The presentation will include a quilt trunk show along with a slide show presentation highlighting the inspiration and process behind many of her pieces. www.buffalograce.com
